Historical collection
The geological and palaeontological collection has significantly profited from the activities of its former curators and from the professors of the Geological Institute at ETH Zurich.
Palaeobotanical collection
The palaeobotanical collection is subdivided into a stratigraphic section, where fossils are arranged according to their stratigraphic position (i.e. their age), and a geographic section, where fossils are arranged according to their locality.
Palaeozoological collection
The palaeozoological collections is subdivided into a stratigraphic section, where fossils are arranged according to their stratigraphic position (i.e. their age), and a systematic section, where fossils are arranged according to their systematic position (i.e. their phylogenetic relationship).
Regional collection
The regional collection contains objects from geological expeditions, research trips and samples from tunnels excavation.
Reference collection
The reference collection contains material obtained during diploma theses, dissertations and finished projects of the members of the Geological Institute.
Didactic collection
The teaching collection is mainly used for course work by the earth science students. A part of the material is on public display in didactic show cases on the E floor.
